I saw this interesting rant about Kaiba and Jonouchi’s relationship on the tumblr tags, and it was well informative, but I feel like the author forgot about one part in the canon that beings the relationship together.

Yeah, I never said that. I said he bullied Jonouchi. I didn’t say he went out of his way to do so. Thanks for misquoting me, I totally appreciate that.
And Kaiba does pick on him unnecessarily just because he wants to get a rise. It happens on numerous occasions. Or, in the manga, just being a complete sociopath and disregarding Jonouchi’s life because he wants to be a sadistic dick and watch him nearly drown. He’s not some innocent bystander who’s a target for Jonouchi’s temper, nor is Jonouchi some victim to his taunts. They come after each other.
And by the end of the manga, Kaiba states that Jonouchi has the heart of a true duelist. He does respect him. I can’t stand it when people say he doesn’t, it’s not true and completely disregarding his character growth.
“So he’s finally a decent duelist…”
Sounds like respect and acknowledgement to me.
